Sock Hygiene

Clean all soft goods everyday with soap and water and allow to thoroughly dry. This includes socks, sheaths, liners and silicone pads. Pay close attention to any dirt, perspiration, or other body fluids that may accumulate on your prosthesis. It should be cleaned immediately as it is not sanitary for you and could contribute to infection or skin problems. Spray the inside of the prosthesis every night with alcohol after you have removed it for the day, this will reduce or eliminate odors.

Please do not come to your scheduled appointments with soiled soft goods and prostheses. This is rude and unsanitary for your care provider. Always remember to bring a variety of socks to every visit so that we can make appropriate adjustments.
